Do you believe in chance encounters?
I certainly do! At the organic wine fair in Montpellier, last March, on my final day I decided to venture into the Enoteca, an open area with plenty of tables laid out with long lines of bottles. Visitors can browse the one or two wines selected by the producers as the most representative of their brand. It is a great way to search for what could be of interest without having to talk to anyone!
As I circled around the tables, something did catch my eye (you could say jumped out of its wine cooler) a lovely green tree frog from the label of an Austrian white wine.
Firstly, I love an interesting wine label, and secondly we were looking for a Grüner Veltliner and we had not yet found one. A win-win?
I poured a small measure into my tasting glass and I was instantly captivated: the wine was green and agile like a tree frog, fresh, with notes of green apples and delicate peppery flavours!
Enter Andreas & Kathrin Schreiner!
Meeting the brother and sister team from the Sonnenmulde/Sunny Wines family winery at their MillesimeBio stand (where I ended up tasting all their delicious wines!) was for me an unexpected ending to the 2022 wine fair and a real pleasure.
Their family winery is found in Gols, a preferred spot for winemaking in the Burgenland, 50 minutes drive from Vienna. Their family have been making wines for generations. On the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl, the specific climate conditions and a rich diversity of soil conditions allows them to cultivate a large number of individual grape varieties on precisely the soils that best suit their needs. You can taste that.
MillesimeBio was the first wine fair they attended since 2020, and the first time showing their wines with the new look labels, a rebranding job that they completed during lockdown, they told me. What an excellent use of time!
Native animals and plants, at home in their organic vineyards, have been represented on the beautiful new labels.
It was the tree frog that drew me to them. Now I can’t decide which ones I love best, be it labels or wines. Check out the Zweigelt and their other organic wine products on our website!

You may have heard one of us telling the story that my sister Cecilia and her husband Fabrizio were the inspiration behind our wine-importing business a long time ago. It was just before the year 2000, at the time they were making wine in Tuscany, a fantastic Vino...
