Tinto Joven Esteban Martin
Easy Drinking, Fruit Forward, Soft Tannins
Bodegas Esteban Martin
NEW VINTAGE – Easy drinking dark red. Very much a fruit forward with soft tannins, slightly warm even jammy berry flavours, but clean dry finish.
Good versatile red, first drink of the evening but running through dinner during the week.
Food Match: Tinto Esteban Martin works well slightly chilled with a barbecue.
From the increasingly influential Cariñena region of Spain, a hundred or so miles south west of Barcelona we have luckily come across Esteban Martin. Terrific modern winery with full flavoured, well ripened fruit.
The vineyards are located in the foothills of the Iberian range, and though the climate is nearly continental the height above sea level and the cool Cierzo wind of the region keeps the grapes well balanced and spritely, with a special and distinctive character.
The climate is dry and subject to extreme temperatures, making for interesting wines that are easy drinking and great for sharing with friends. These entry level wines are stylish and full of crunchy flavours.
Bodegas Esteban Martin are located at the foot of the Iberian Cordillera. In this area the climate is influenced by a cold, dry wind, called “Cierzo”. Winters are cold and summers are extremely hot, there is little rainfall and temperature fluctuations tend to be extreme, which is why, so the vines have a great personality and character.
In 2003 Miguel Antonio Esteban who is 79 years old today, achieved his dream, when he bought 150 hectares of vineyards in the best lands of the D.O.P. Cariñena.
Their desire to make wines which pursue excellence is achieved by the fact that they only use grapes grown on their estate-owned plots, 200 hectares in total, making it possible for them to control the entire growing process using those varieties best suited to the soil. With modern facilities and 300 new French and American barrels, the wines offer a distinctive modern personality.
Bodegas Esteban Martin is very much a collaborative project and our three-generation family company includes many others – from cellar hands to grape pickers – each of whom play a vital role in the creation of our wines.
We are very lucky to be able to work with such a fabulous team who share and understand our vision and passion for the wines of Cariñena.
