Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Fonteromana 2019 VINTAGE –  Ruby red wine with aromas of ripe red fruits, dried flowers and spices like pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg.

On the palate it’s soft with delicate tannin, a good structure and long finish.

It is recommended with pasta with tomato sauce, lamb, sheep, beef, pork and mid-seasoned cheeses.

It should be served at a temperature of 18 C.


Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Fonteromana comes from the same grape variety as the other wines produced by Pasetti. IT has a yield of 130 quintals per hectare.

It grows in Pescosansonesco at 550 meters above sea level. Vineyards are located at the foot of Gran Sasso in a very windy place with a high temperature range. Here the soil is clay-calcareous and rich in minerals.

The harvest is in the middle of October. Red vinification with skin contact for 10-15 days. Fermentation occurs with selected yeasts at low temperature. Malolactic fermentation is spontaneous.

The wine ages in steel tanks, then is placed in 60hl oak barrels for 4 months.


Pasetti history is rooted in “Borboni” era, when Silvestro Pasetti – Mimmo’s ancestor – bought several pieces of land from Farina marquis: and started to plant some vineyards. Silvestro’s dream was carried on by his son Rocco who never gave up, especially when he had to face and defeat the fillossera plague.

Nowadays Mimmo, a few generations down the line, runs the winery: he got the deep love for his place from the father and in the same way, he got an utmost discretion from him. Although hailing from a place hostile towards outward interferences, Mimmo’s attitude is divided between the will to thoroughly safeguard the heritage of the beloved Abruzzo and his natural tendency for innovation.

Francesca, Mimmo’s first daughter, had red hair, exactly as the beautiful Madame Rachele – Franco’s mother had. Franco bottled the “Testarossa” wine, to pay homage to those two charming women, which represent the symbol of the past and the future of the family. Today, Testarossa is the most representative brand of Pasetti winery.

His dreams were coming true. A remote 45 years old vineyard was hiding in the middle of the above-said land: wildly neglected, that precious vineyard came back to life thanks to Mimmo’s efforts and love. Finally, in 2000, the old vineyard gave delicious fruits away. Those fruits will become the top wine of Pasetti winery: Harimann. This dry red wine is both majestic and fine, with soft and persuasive tannins. The word “Harimann” derives from “Harimanni”: northerner soldiers that in medieval time moved to Abruzzo. Strong and brave warriors, like Mimmo is.

All the wines that Pasetti makes come from the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. These wines represent the will to remain connected both to local places and native grapes. Harimann and red Testarossa are made with Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes, some other wines are obtained from Trebbiano d’AbruzzoPecorino and Passerina white grape varieties, instead. Pasetti also makes a wonderful sweet white wine made with Moscatello di Castiglione grapes, an ancient vine variety that has almost disappeared.

At a time when the most part of the viticulturists used to implant international grapes like Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay, Mimmo decided to focus on native grapes. He was sure they would be able to give excellent results if implanted in proper soil. Because of his certainty, Mimmo recovered an ancient vine variety: the Pecorino. The bet was won and today the pecorino wine is giving great opportunities to the whole Abruzzo wine-maker community.

Mimmo is a reserved man and solitude lover. Nevertheless he is the president of the regional Coldiretti, because the passion he has for the viticulture is not only towards his winery: there are more than 30.000 small farms in Abruzzo, which may be able to make the difference in the wine world, if only they were organized in a proper way. Today Mimmo and his wife Laura, run the winery along with their 3 children: Francesca Rachele who manages the offices, Massimo who is the export manager and the last one, Davide, who is an eonologist.

    When we were first introduced to Bianca and Juliusz we gave them a brief of the type of wines we liked (mostly Italian Amarone, Valpolicella, etc) and they recommended us a number of bottles, This one caught the eye the most and has fast become one of my favourite bottles. If you enjoy Amarone, I am sure you will love it. For the price point, it really feels like you are getting a quality wine. Very versatile, we have enjoyed it with an array of foods or just on it’s own.

    We are wine-lovers, without too much knowledge of wines! When Bianca and Juliusz encouraged us to adventure further into their vineyard, we were happy to comply. Amongst many fine drinks, we discovered a new red, which instantly became an old friend. Multepulciano-dabruzzo-Pasetti is now our favourite wine for dinner with friends, for summer- in- the- garden times and winter- by-the-fire times. We would ask anyone to try this wine and dare anyone not to love it!…Julia and Roger
