This Amarone is a wine of delightful richness and phenomenal power. Garnet red with intense and ethereal aromas of warming spices, dry fruit, big, harmonious and perfectly balanced.

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is obtained from the grapes that have been left to rest during the months of September and October, after a first careful selection in the vineyards and a second in well ventilated barns where they remain to dry on straw mats called “graticci” until January.

It is refined for about 3.5 years in big casks of wood (20hl) and tonneaux and then in the bottle for about six months.

Food Match: Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico is perfect with game, stews and robust pasta dishes. Could also work with Asian cuisine.

The Begali Estate is situated in the charming Valpolicella area, between Pedemonte and the hills of Castelrotto, near Verona and Garda lake. Since the beginning of the 20th century the Begali family have passed on the tradition and love of the land and its work from father to son.

The vineyards (10 hectares) are set among cherry orchards covering hills and slopes in a small hamlet called Cengia. This name comes from the name of the rocks dotted around on the facing hill. This is why the wines they produce are so rich in aromas and typical flavours of the fertile land and reflect the harmony and the singular characteristics of this area.

A blend of the most important grapes of Valpolicella: Corvina (and Corvinone), Rondinella and other autochthonous varieties. The first bottle of Begali in 1986. Now the tradition continues with the son and daughter of Lorenzo and Adriana, Giordano and Tiliana.

Begali Lorenzo

We have worked with the lovely Begali family for a very long time. Lorenzo and Adriana, followed on from Lorenzo’s father who began making wine after the second world war.  They started selling their first bottles in 1986, and have since involved their son Giordano and daughter Tiliana.  They produce their wines on an estate of 12 hectares between Lake Garda and Verona, in the classic area for Valpolicella. This family run winery in the small borgo of Cengia, is nonetheless a top Valpolicella estate, having won plenty of Tre Bicchieri awards in the famous Gambero Rosso guide, Slow Food and Wine Spectator.

Begali are also part of the consorzio of historic Amarone families, an association founded in 2009, dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of this famed style, whereby the wine is made from selected bunches of grapes dried in the autumn on straw to concentrate the sugars and dry extract. As such it’s high in alcohol but not fortified.
